Woodland Creation

With climate change at the forefront of all our minds, creating woodlands of various types and with differing objectives is a vital tool to mitigate these changes.  Currently the UK has only has around 13% woodland cover, far behind the European average of 37% so there is huge potential for woodland creation in this country.  The UK government has ambitious targets for increasing the percentage of woodland cover and as such there are generous grants available to support your project.  We can guide you through the process. 

Kilmaha can take you through your woodland creation project from the initial design, to trees in the ground, and the subsequent maintenance required to make your woodland thrive.  While we can take on any project, and do, we specialize in smaller projects and multi-functional woodland; those clients that may only have a few hectares but are still looking for a complete service.  Be it for timber, biodiversity, social benefits, family legacy or any other reason, we operate a ‘it’s your woodland’ policy; we take your vision, your ideas, and we make it happen.

Forestry Contracting

When the plans are in place and you’re ready for the work to begin, then it’s time to call in our contracting team.  Kilmaha’s history is rooted in contracting and we have developed a rich knowledge and experience in all aspects of silvicultural operations.  This gives us an innate understanding of what it takes to produce thriving woodlands. 

We provide silvicultural contracting services to a range of clients from small woodland owners to large private estates and the public forest estate; 

  • Planting trees; from whips to standards, sheltered and unsheltered, restocking and beat up on a wide variety of site types and locations. 

  • Plantation maintenance operations such as herbicide applications, mechanical weeding and re-spacing. 

  • Infrastructure maintenance operations for example access management for footpaths, fence repairs etc.
